The Sliding Down Poem by Raymond J Wright

The Sliding Down

I can feel it
The sliding down
Off of this mountain
Of this unending pain

I can feel it now
Maybe
(just maybe)
The beginning of a new day
(but somehow) Still wrapped
In the bitterness of yesterday

And I don’t understand
How it got to be this way
Where the touch of your hand
And the brush of your lips
Tears my world away

And there’s the sound
Of your voice, your laughter
Your music in my soul
And the curve of your body
Pressed against mine (sometime long ago)

I can feel it
The sliding down
Off of this pedestal
Of self loathing shame
