The Soil Poem by Qiniso Mogale

The Soil

We all came from the soil
We shall all return to soil
Our flesh came from the soil
Our flesh shall return to the soil
We are the sons and daughters of the soil
The soil is a home to all.

Many forget they came from the soil
Earthly riches have made them forget
Yes, earthly treasures have made them forget
But death death returns them to the soil
Soon their names are forgotten
Soon their exploits are forgotten
They die having lived in vain
The soil is a home to all.

I know sons of the soil who have lived well
I know sons of the soil who have left an indelible mark
I know sons of the soilwho shall not be forgotten
Marin Luther shall not be forgotten
Marcus Garvey shall not be forgotten
Winston Churchill shall not be forgotten
Nelson Mandela shall not be forgotten
They were buried six feet under the soil
But they shall always be remembered above the soil.
