The Sparrow's Nest Poem by Francis Duggan

The Sparrow's Nest

The sparrow she keep busy all the day
Weaving her nest with dried out grass and hay
And lining it with feathers on inside
But in her work she seem to show no pride.

No work of art built with painstaking care
The sparrow's nest an untidy affair
On upper branch wedged in fork of tea tree
An untidy ball of hay is all I see.

The sparrow take me back to boyhood day
To distant Country many miles away
On barn rafter her happy voice did ring
As she built her nest in early days of spring.

The sparrow's nest wedged in fork of tea tree
Brings back a happy memory to me
Of my Homeland in April and in May
The sparrow built her untidy nest of hay.
