The Sweet Sayings Of Bacchus Poem by Phil J Hambling

The Sweet Sayings Of Bacchus

I would have pledged my faith
Before you drank yourself to sleep
My words were lost
To the charms
Of the grape
And in the sweet sayings of Bacchus
You bask
The lure of his false promises too potent to deny
Blind to my silence
As I leave you to rest
In his dominion
Once again

Beautiful writing, Michael. There could often be more than a slip between the lips and the sweetness in the cup
