There have been Three
Who held prominent positions
Important, until now
For their contributions
Labored all
With rules, image and reputation
Three that I followed
Looked upon for inspiration
Love, hope and admiration
Trying to keep up
Walking in their footsteps
Broken by disappointment
Where their tracks led
to cowardice, empty promises and eventual abandonment
One who ran from his diseases
Shunning help
Avoiding the pleas
Lost without hope to cope
Shutting out my dreams
Only to discover
Eventually...
False strength is never forever
Then one who ran from challenge
Paralyzed by change
Ensnared in ego and comfort
Causing me to forgo
After over twenty years of tears and effort
And to finally know
What I'd hoped never true
A guarded heart is weak, sickly and lonely
After all
The last one
Such a tragedy
A beauty
and so sad frightened soul
Hiding behind the 'do good' facade
Preaching courage when he had none
Touting compassion when he bled hearts
Mocking tenderness with the male ego
And unwilling to grow
Fearful of what he longed for and needed most
The weight of these disappointments
The torment of these lessons
The clarity now, I once wished I never had
Was the key to unlocking the infinite strength of this heart
A courage forged in pain
A will of iron and steel
This Prince powered by compassion
Embodied in the form of woman
Drawn up by the gods of determination
In service to Love...
The Paramount King
And forever I am bound by choice
to these Three
Grateful for their teachings
Molded by their influence
Tempered by our mistakes
And loving them no less
For imperfection is the beauty
That beats the heart of the human

FOR IMPERFECTION IS THE BEAUTY THAT BEATS THE HEART OF THE HUMAN. Powerfully penned with insight and intensity, well articulated and written in poetic diction. Kudos Laura.
