The Tiger, The Lion And the Rat Poem by RIC BASTASA

The Tiger, The Lion And the Rat

perhaps you must recall my story,
first the tiger was a paper,
a mere paper,
and then the lion was not thunder
but a whisper,
nothing happened in fear
you expect much from
thunder when what arrived was just
my whisper,

and then finally the rat,
and you were so shocked,
tell me who, tell me who
and you could not muster the
answer

i was the rat, all along in that
parable, i ate the tiger, i set the lion
free, and you were the princess
who kissed the frog,
not the rat, who loved the beast
and never the rat in me.
