Once upon a thousand years ago
I felt the touch of love caress my world
Now it's just a fading memory
A whisper from a melody unfurled
Empty hours betray each dawning day
No tender care within this solitude
Echoes of a past resound unheard
The joys of love forever to exclude
Vague imaginings so cloud my mind
The future holds no dreams nor visions clear
Dusty are the memories I keep
And silent is the voice I long to hear
Grief becomes an all-consuming fire
Destroying all the joy as ever known
Suffocating every sweet desire
Unstitching all the dreams that once were sewn
Once upon a thousand years ago
I knew the touch of love upon my heart
Now it's just a fading memory -
and the stormy seas of loss I cannot chart
