The Trees Are Green, The Skies Are Blue Poem by Mark Heathcote

The Trees Are Green, The Skies Are Blue

The trees are green, the skies are blue.
I have not far to go to look for you
The world is insular, but yet, like a
bleeding vein, I am now anaemic
And no doubt riddled with endless shame.
My heart is bursting with a dozen red blood
vessels all at once. Please tie a wire garrot
around the source of all my unwanted pain.

The trees are green, the skies are blue.
I have not far to go to look for you.
But when I do, the weather changes.
From green to blue from grey to black
I am not saying I don't have loyalty
I am not saying I don't love you
But do you, really have my back?
And in an instant, I feel abandoned.
Reduced to ashes and cinders
Hoping to catch fire and truly ignite
I'm hopeful I'm right, and it's just another
Relapse before the last bell is rung.
And win the goddamn fight.

The trees are green, the skies are blue.
I do not have far to go to find you.
But I feel I've walked a million miles.
And listened to a thousand malevolent choirs
Looking for a fool's gold, a fool's rainbow,
And social acceptance, don't you know?
Something that doesn't defile my soul,
My poor heart, my mind, one more time.
And reconciles the zombies and vampires
With The Walking Dead, I see all the time.
Lovingly waiting to be wined and dined
Saved eternally to be graciously civilly wed.
