The Tune Of A Little Mockingbird Poem by Nicolaa Gallardo

The Tune Of A Little Mockingbird

A mockingbird once told me of a man behind a tree.
Said he was lone but happy in his comfortable state.
With his smile so wide and warm, I came to stay awhile.
Looking at a man not farther than a mile.

The bird smiled with a twinkle in its eye.
Sang a tune of romance and pulled me to the tree.
Blushing a deep scarlet, the man gave me a smile
And invited me to sit.

He told me of his life and how he came to be.
Told me of the lady that he so wants to see.
Her eyes like drops of crystals
Paler than the moon

While her lips of cherry blossom clearly made him swoon.
He told me of their story, how he first made her cry.
A rather bitter love song that made the poor bird sigh.
The lady, she is coming? Asked a foolish youth of one.

Aye, he said, she's coming, but only for awhile.
A tear ran down to his face.
He couldn't hide his sobs.
As he pointed to a tombstone with her name in a dark mark.

-The lady died a long time ago. They met under the tree. They promised to meet there when they would elope together. Sadly, the girl died when she was wounded.
