The Ugly Truth Poem by Heather Z. Hanna

The Ugly Truth

There are those who would for selfish carnal pleasure
Abuse little children taking their childhood away
With no care or thought of how horrible they are.
They choose to abuse but fear the light of day.
The day of truth when they may have to say,
Guilty!
How can a child fight these Monsters who exist amoung us?
They are so powerless.
This is why the abuser gets away with their destruction.
The damage done is horrifying.
So many of the abused grow up with self hate
And pain too deep for many to understand.
So begins the dreadful path that many will walk.
They become victims of drug and drink.
Trying to kill the forever pain.
Or they turn to the only thing they know
which is to be a victim
And walk the streets to make money to eat
because of their self worth was never established.
Or they may become the Monster themselves.
Yet there are some who rise above their pain
And the fight within is always there
but they can function in our better world.
And to these who survive
And fight to live
And help other victims deal with their pain.
Should go a special star.
One that shines extra bright
for those around them.
The journey is deep and dark and dangerous.
And a light is needed for the victims to see.
That there is Hope to have a different, better life.
