The Way We Rhyme Our Devils Poem by Raj Dronamraju

The Way We Rhyme Our Devils

The way we rhyme our devils
The way we latch our Satan onto that we disapprove of
The way we put Beelzebub in a bag and throw it out in drive bys at pariahs
The pariahs who duck are those you have slurred as servants of a devil

The way we make our devils fit our frustrations, our petty hatreds, our bigotry
Our devil is the barking dog we have set under a tree to keep people away from the fruits we are too full to eat
The pariahs we have denied even the most basic happiness to watch from afar waiting for what is left

The way we label evil as that which is not evil but individual choice
The way we minimize real evil by diluting it with issues of personal freedom
The way the devil everyone can agree on as such, power, draws attention away from this through its handling of pariahs
Divide and conquer and the agents are the pariahs

That was how an angel was felt up by greasy hands
And that an agreement was forged that neither party wanted but abided by
The pariahs live on the promise of a greater reward
For taking on the role of a devil in this lifetime
