The Whistler Poem by Francis Duggan

The Whistler

The great gift of life from the whistler has gone
But the music of her whistle on record lives on
Among those who loved whistlers a legend of the town
A yearly whistling competition in her name to honour her renown
Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren live in the town today
Though none of them any musical instruments play
The Whistlers they are known of as by nickname
Their deceased matriarch remains one of enduring fame
That she was the town's greatest whistler happens to be so
She passed from life in her early eighties a decade ago
predeceased by her husband by a few years
She was one of those talented remarkable honourable old dears
Such beautiful music on her whistle she did play
Her tunes they are living on record today
