The White Swan (Italian Sonnet) Poem by Gert Strydom

The White Swan (Italian Sonnet)

I saw it walk on water with its mate behind,
a white swan at speed preparing for its flight,
this attachment to each other comes to mind,
it was becoming twilight and almost night.

Trees reflected on water in the last daylight,
the scene was hazy but that image I find.
Somehow of you, Annelize, it does remind,
dazed and far off but in my mind bright.

I wish that together we could the world face,
with a connection as attached and pure
to together find the right way through the haze,
nothing can the memories of you replace
while in my heart and soul you do endure;
love's impact in that scene do me amaze.
