It's early morning, and the air is crisp and cold
But the sun emerges, a warm comforting gold
She paints her delicate stripes, her definitive mark
Creative and triumphant, dispelling the dark
Cinnamon, mustard, and a rich copper brown
These are the colours of the leafy eiderdown
The spindly silhouettes of the fragile naked trees
Synchronise their curtsey to the enigmatic breeze
The spongy stamp of the dawn frost still lingers
The intricate sparkle of the slippery fingers
Delicate fragrant petals sip the cool dew drops
Heightening the green from the lawns to the tree tops
Bare feet rejoice on connection with sweet, moist grass
This moment must be treasured every time our soles will pass
Take a deep breath as you step outside the door
And live for the moment like you've never lived before
The first snowflakes that make know their glorious presence
Create a brilliant sheer blanket of delightful elegance
There's an eerie silence as acoustics lose their power
And gracefully succumb to this bright, passionate shower
The hedgehog and the mole commence hibernation
In warm dark conditions for self-preservation
The maple and the birch feel the cruel winter's pinch
And nourishment is low for the starling and the finch
The rape of the countryside is harsh and oppressive
But the promise of springtime is always impressive
Meanwhile cosy fires protect from the biting cold
As the wonders of winter never cease to unfold.
Good depiction of the beautiful side of winter, well articulated and insightfully penned in poetic diction with lovely rhyme scheme. Thanks for sharing Diane. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON.
Beautiful imagery is drawn of golden glowing winter. First snowflake shines here with description in touch of light. Amazing and nice poem shared really....10
