I bid adieu to the departing year
Reverently, with harp and lyre, with my being entire
And would greet the unfolding New Year
With my eyes glistening, with heart aflutter
For all this is in the scheme of the Lord, ethereal
I often wonder who put in me longings immortal
Who willed the Tree of Life should sprout and bloom
Even as leaves wither or flowers fade out seasonal
The departing year kept me warm, despite winter occasional
And I would be grateful, if the New Year keeps me lovable
