The Young Man From Venus Bay Poem by Francis Duggan

The Young Man From Venus Bay

From where he lives in the Melbourne Eastern Suburbs the building site he works on a five minutes walk away
And he likes the suburban life the young man from Venus Bay
And the South Gippsland Village by the ocean he does not miss at all
The night life there is non existent as he can well recall.

The shopping plazas and the pubs and night clubs to where he lives quite near
And he loves the weekend discos and the young women and the beer
On saturday evenings to rock music he dance and laugh and sing
And young men must know how to enjoy themselves and young men must have their fling.

His old Village by the ocean from where he lives not far
On the South Gippsland highway a two hours drive by car
He was born and he was raised there and there his is a well known face
But he feels life is better away from his Homeplace.

He does not have a steady girlfriend just the odd one night stand
And to buy a house, marry and father children for such things he has not planned
He is enjoying his twenties and is making the most of his prime
And he looks forward to the weekend to having a good time.

His parents live in the old home in quiet old Venus Bay
On the South Gippsland highway a few hours by car away
But he likes it in the suburbs and he feels happy and care free
And he will not be going back to live to the Village by the sea.
