There Are No Candles Where I Live Poem by Dr Vidya Hariharan

There Are No Candles Where I Live

When darkness falls, as it will,
Day turns to night, at its will,

The soft evening colours fade,
Leaving me in its cruel shade.

When there's darkness all around,
I feel the ghosts of my past abound,

They press against my heart nightly,
I search for light blindly.

But there are no candles
Where I live, only a twilit dusk.
