There Is Another Side Of You Poem by Mohammad Younus

There Is Another Side Of You

There is another side of you—
A softer, kinder, truer self.
Not bound by the weight of ruthless ambition,
Nor deceived into mistaking wealth for worth.

Do not be a stern disciple of the almighty dollar,
Nor see kindness as weakness,
Or compassion as a flaw.
Let not the world convince you
That to chase without mercy is to succeed,
Or that without conquest, you have failed.

See the other side of yourself.
Find solace in quiet moments,
In the company of right thoughts.
Know that violence is the last refuge
Of the incompetent,
And that true strength
Lies in gentleness, in grace.

Learn to find peace in the world's chaos,
Learn drawing wisdom from those unlike you.
Learn silence from the talkative,
Learn Patience from the restless,
Learn Knowledge from the ignorant,
Learn Tolerance from the intolerant.
Learn love from the hate-filled,
Learn Peace from the violent,
Learn Truth from the deceived,
Learn Kindness from the unkind.

And above all, find and pursue
Your truest passion—
Contentment.

In a world obsessed with what can be owned,
Find joy in what can be created.
Shape something beautiful,
Shift the way we see the world.

Let kindness be your compass.
Even when the world is harsh,
Let your heart remain soft.
Even in the face of cruelty,
Find ways to bring joy.
Do not let the world make you hard.
Do not let bitterness steal your sweetness.

Carry within you the light of a child—
That wonder, that innocence,
For as long as you can.
