There Is Something About Rain Poem by Seema Jayaraman

There Is Something About Rain

Rating: 5.0

There is something about
the sound of rain
Falling steadfastly
A cadence of singing bowls
And wind chimes of many pipes
Only this is water
Being thrown around as droplets
On pebbles and rainskirts
Lining the edge of sloping roofs
To gently lead the exuberant flow
On slate tracks and metal channels
Creating signature tenors
Till it envelopes the quiet
An hour before midnight
When twilight has left behind
A swatch of grey light
And as the working world
Quietly slips into dreams
And the night wanderers
Are just about to pick up steam
The silence into which
Some reluctant lovers
Relinquish their worldly bonds
And aquiesce to sit side by side
Wrapped in solitude
Ears pealed to the rain
Washing down on their pain
Making their way twisting,
curving into the waiting Earth
With just that minimal light
To see the love
in each other's eyes
shinning, shinning
Through WhatsApp
