These Meditating Stones Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

These Meditating Stones

Adam and Eve
When sent from heaven
One ancient eve,
On way to Garden of Eden
Must have walked past stones—
Stones and stones, not but stones.

The ancient caveman,
When he first began
To take his life's first step,
Stones were all he had for help—

Stones to play with and pass time,
And talk to him in mute mime,
Stones as an expression of heart,
Stones to create his first piece of art,
His very first weapon
He must have hurled under sun.
Stones, one fateful day to make fire—
One tentative step to move higher
In his survival strife
And race against struggles of life!

More ancient than men,
That came well before life began,
Much before forest fire,
That cleared some wooded mire,
There have been these stones,
Stones solitude prone,
Stones that meditate
And remain ever since in that state.
