They Chanted Poem by Randy McClave

They Chanted

I heard them chant as they did go
"Lets head on back to Mexico"!
No longer do they want to work or live here
They are tired of the hate and the unfounded fear.
Let's get on the busses or in the planes
Or in the cars or on the trains,
Let's happily return to the land from where we came
Then let us wave goodbye to Lady Liberty's flame.
Let's go back home through the Rio Grande
Let us return to our own homeland,
Let us return to where we were born
And let's stay away from racism, bigotry and scorn.
Let someone else pick their vegetables and fruits
And someone else can clean their dresses and suits,
Let someone else can be in a rage
When someone else wants more than minimum wage.
Let someone else pay the taxes that we paid
Let someone else make the food that we made,
And let someone else clean their pools and maintain their lawn
They all chanted as they all journeyed on.
Let's leave this land that once was ours
Soon it will be ran and controlled by billionaire czars,
Then when prices and taxes rises and they scream they are the victim
Then they will understand, it was always them.
