They Would Not Listen Poem by Cynthia Buhain-baello

They Would Not Listen

We try persistently to speak
Of love and of caring compassion.
But elusive is the peace we seek
This world is so lost in confusion.

Hate is the dogma taught by some-
Power, the goal and world domination.
Worst of animals is what Man has become,
And he's headed for the ultimate destruction.

No, they would not listen to reason.
Blind and deaf, just callous to the bone.
They toy with bombs and nuclear weapons
Aiming to kill, even those their own.

Alliances merging and this not for progress,
Deals and agreements are signed, we hear.
But mark the days and the times, assess-
A nuclear bomb is not made a souvenir.
