This is what he was taught
When truth from his father was sought,
He was told, "A woman is what a man owns and controls"
For which he sets her goals.
And if they become husband and wife,
They then share his life.
This he will also confess
He always tells her how to look and dress,
Also what to wear
And how to keep her hair.
As long as she is at his house,
She is an obeying girlfriend or spouse.
This he will tell all others
Especially sons and brothers,
As if he's writing it permanently on the wall
She will obey his every law.
As long as she is at his side,
To all that he says or does she must abide.
This he will shout out loud
As if standing in the middle of a crowd,
She will follow his rules and commands
With the wave of his hands.
As long as she is ever with him,
She is his property, his possession of his every whim.
This he will honestly and always tell
Her body is his as well,
Before a tat, a piercing or an operation or anything
He must give his permission as her lord, her king.
But, when she's alone in a voting booth,
No one but her, tells her how to choose.
