This Generation Of Men Poem by Randy McClave

This Generation Of Men

I was much older than what she was
And I am not looking for companionship or even love,
I pulled out the chair for her to sit
Then I complimented her on her hair and also her outfit.
I talked to her about whatever that she wanted
We had a great conversation and not once was I daunted,
I then talked to her about her beauty and her life
Then I smiled telling her that she would make a wonderful wife.
I treated her with both courtesy and grace
As I look into her soul and also upon her face,
I then asked her if she would like to dance
Then she said to me with a smile, 'I love your generation's romance'.

She said, 'This generation of men is not romantic at all'
They just want to take their dates to a car show at the mall,
They just want to wear shorts and a ball cap
And then listen all day to blaring country music or gangster rap.
They don't want to ever open any door for her
That thought of romance to them never once did occur,
And at a restaurant they don't wait for her to sit down first
They are already hungry and dying of thirst.
With praises of beauty and love unto her they never shower
And they never ever bring her a single rose flower,
He never compliments her on the clothes that she wears
Or of the new look of her hairstyle there is no cares.
He never walks hand in hand with her alone at night at the park
He would rather be hunting in the dark,
And if a couple ever goes to a secluded pond to skip a stone in
He tells her how he wishes he had brought his rod and reel for fishin'.
He never walks down the street with her holding hands, side by side
Never is she treated as his love with ultimate pride,
And they never talk of things that she wants to talk about as they walk
Sometimes she feels as though she's not allowed to talk.
A future is not this generation's aims
And mostly what men talk about is video games,
Sometimes I'll ask a date what authors they like and books they've read
'None! ' They've said.
He never reads her any romantic poetry
The reason that he says that he doesn't because of his masculinity,
So, instead he reads to her from his sportsman catalog
And then he takes her to a drive-thru for fries and a chili dog.
He never takes her to a romantic movie or a restaurant or show
He instead takes her to wrestling events or fighting movies with woe,
In his being he knows not of compliments or of flirtation
Indeed men have no romance at all in this new generation.
