Those Dreams Poem by Valerie Dohren

Those Dreams

Those dreams I set my heart upon
became as vapoured clouds -
with rain descending so to drench
my soul in hazy shrouds

of mist, obscuring all I deemed
would lead to greener lands -
where love would be my guiding star
held fast by gentle hands.

But dreams are only dreams that fade
with each new day begun -
reality's dark face to show
her scorn beneath the sun.

To wear a mask of faithless hope
is full my destiny -
with time eroding yet all dreams
as never meant to be.

But can I, dare I seek to dwell
within that land obscure -
envisage all that I would deem
so perfect and so pure.

Be still, oh world, for I am done
with all your sad lament -
I'll chase those dreams which I have wrought
that I may rest content.
