Those High Expectations Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Those High Expectations

Fame to wish with fortune to get,
Will never replace the freedom...
Of wanting to lower,
Those high expectations.
To once perceive with fame comes fortune.
And this to achieve,
Represents a true validating of happiness.
Afterall...
Isn't this the ultimate of success?

Well...
For the ones to have achieved,
Some degree of notoriety.
That happiness to have had,
Seems to have been left behind.
During one's struggle.
Enjoying what is done to do.
And taking it for granted.
Since it was not fame or fortune pursued.

Then that day what one does to do,
Becomes by others to discover.
And what had been endeavored with years of effort.
Receives attention to have this mentioned.
To leave one exposed to what comes to follow.
Assumptions made.

However...
That fame to get with fortune connected.
Is an illusion.
A rumored myth.
Since nowhere around to be found,
Is that fortune.
Nowhere around is cash stashed.
Maybe a coupon clipped.
To get a discount on a bag of chips.

Many suspect fame to have it acclaimed.
Automatically means,
One's life to live...
Swiftly ends the pinching of pennies.
This...
Is more than the reality than not.
Especially when one knows too well,
It takes two rolls of pennies,
To make one dollar.
And four rolls of pennies,
To buy a small cup of coffee.
With maybe one sugar coated donut hole.
And that coffee?
To request it poured in a medium cup.
With a doing of slow sips on it.

"Sir?
Would you like your change? "

-You have no idea.
The wait for it seems long overdue.-

"Sir?
I'm not one to be rude.
But every customer who comes in here,
Expects to be treated...
As if they have waiting for years.
You're wait is no longer than anyone else.
Next! "

Hmmm...
Nobody knows,
Who waits for what and why.
To then decide...
Patience to have,
Can be more satisfying to acquire.
Than fame to wish with fortune to get.
And the pinching of pennies.
To remember and reminisce,
The meaning of happiness.
And when it happened,
To have had it accomplished.
