Those Words You Meant Poem by Dorothy (Alves) Holmes

Those Words You Meant

Do you know how I feel?
Do you even care?
I think not,
You with
Your poised, arrogant air.
Those steps you make,
Your stride so sure,
Moving again,
Towards the door, leaving again...
If you knew how each step
Crushed
My heart,
Would it stop you? I wondered
In silence...
Or would you proceed to vacate
My heart and needs again?
I wish you hadn't smiled
As you
Slammed the door.
That smile, burned into my soul then,
I know now, forever more.
Your smile, bitter with contempt
Behind the words I know you meant.
Did you ever care,
That I want you here,
With me?
With me!
