Thoughts Poem by Sally Walker

Thoughts

Non-stop.
Good or bad?
Uncertain…
Maybe you should think about that?
Wait no, it's bad…
Don't create more thoughts.
You already have so many.
If you had a penny…
For every thought you've had?
Or even just for your current ones.
You'd suffocate in all your wealth.
As you are in your health.
So many thoughts-
coming in like shots.
Through your head
all night.
One after the other.
Make you beg not to have another.
Crying…
The overwhelming thoughts put you into a stressed state of mind.
The kind where you're beating yourself up for never being enough.
So you stuff yourself with work.
Until they finally go away.
Never for a full day-
they prefer to stay.
Until your body says you'll die with the amount of sleep you've had…
You know it's bad…
Yet you still have to ask,
Should you change?
What you're doing…
You know they'll go away.
Although it may only cause more dismay.
For the reasons of your trouble are not really your thoughts…
that's just the effect.
The real reason can be fixed…
Well maybe,
There's no way of knowing,
Without trying…
But you don't wanna make things worse.
Your life already feels like a curse.
The boy you've been thinking about has a girlfriend…
While he does seem unhappy,
You don't wanna be sappy,
But you wish you could change that.
Without hurting the boy you're with…
You don't love him.
Rather pity him.
Yet if you leave,
You believe it will only cause more pain.
So you wait.
For your mate to give a reason for pursuit.
Even though he's provided many.
More than enough.
Your love remains patient.
While you're debating over what to do…
Inflicting pain upon others is hard for you.
Leaving you rather blue,
You don't change quite yet.
Even with the lack of sleep,
Lack of happiness,
Lack of love,
And lack of break,
from your thoughts.
