To Dad Poem by Michael J ORourke2

To Dad

You are my Dad... speaking to me
...vibrant truths of love...an unuttered rhapsody
Like the unscythed fields of grain
You wait for God's 'harvest Train'.
This harvest of faith- your children savor
Mindful of time...and the fruits of your labor

You are my Dad...leading me
From Lafayette's scape...an un bidden reverie
With memories of the Atlantic's thunderous roar
Amid tanker engines that died...and egrets that soared
After sailing the seas and the ocean's foam
On Christmas day...your joy was found with family at home!

You are my Dad...praying for me
An innocent plea for God's infinite mercy
Strong and proud like the mast of a ship
The sacraments... your vessel for a heavenward trip
Others debate the powers of divinity
Your soul surges...to meet the Trinity!

Love,
Michael

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

A magnificent tribute for your Dad...Surely he will see and hear this, and in someway return that warmth and sign of love back to you when you least expect it...At least that's how it happened with my Dad, not too long after he had passed on to a far better place. This trio of sestets is structurally sound and fluxed...I enjoyed the read. ~FjR~

Thank you, Frank. My dad was an only child who raised 9 children along with my mother who is still alive at 87. I was the third oldest and majored in Classics at Fairfield University. My English teacher, Rev John McIntyre, S.J. Taught me poetry as a freshman and senior. I still love to read and write because no one else seems to care. It gladdened my heart to see that someone else read my poem and actually liked it! Imagine my surprise! Thank you again! - mjor
