To Dad With Love Poem by zaheer uddin

To Dad With Love

Washing your hair ever so gently
your hands and your feet all cold as ice- - -

Wrapping you up in your fresh white sheets
an angel at peace
all dressed up to leave- -

to a faraway place
where you yearned to sail again- -

The fiery form
that had weathered all storms
had finally succumbed
to nature's call- -

The sea was in your eyes
and the sun was in your smile
The wind would stir up dreams
of distant lands
where you once watched the waves
romancing the sands-

I remember all your tales
of the storms and singing whales
how you once had left your home
and had sailed at seventeen
till the time you were destined
to be anchored on the shore
where you'd play with sand and shells
with your shovel and your pail
and some kids who'd make you yell
when they'd trample on your dreams-
And when your time was done
The waves would wash your trail- -

I know how hard it was for you
to be stranded on the shore
when you'd rather explore
The world a little more- -

Let me tell you as you leave
to another distant place- -
that you built some fine castles
till your hands were sore and numb
That the waves could never wash your trail
and the winds could never bend the trees
that you planted on the shore- -

I've saved all your memories
in the sea shells that i found
in your footprints on the sands
where you'd dream of distant lands- -
