To Her Glory Poem by Oluwaseyi Francis Adeosun

To Her Glory

Rating: 4.5

TO HER GLORY

She was endowed with great intellect,
Capable in the kitchen, dazzling in her careers;
Farming, medicine, hunting,
She belongs to all.
Determined to take her place in the world,
Her words to us, was hope

Like the sophist’s paradigm shift,
Gradually, our hope fades away.
Her smile, now occasional.
The giants of our land we summoned,
But lo, nothing they brought
Even more, our appetite they defied.

Her hair, now thin, red and dry,
Stiff and lifeless like a broom.
Her eyes, swollen and pale,
Glassy-sick, with vacant look.
See her ribs, all sticking out,
Like the side fin of a fish.

Then, they came, dressed in camouflage.
Their camouflage, now against justice, equity and peace.
Whenever they approach our side,
There is a graveyard silence,
But guns kill boom, boom and boom.
Even though you see, better to keep your mute.

Agbada, we thought would be our shade,
Like a warm embrace of a mother,
Petting her crying baby.
Here and there, pot belly they show,
And our tongue, glued to a solitary taste,
Her wound the more they pinch.

A wake up call now we herald,
“ki eku ile gbo ko so fun toko” **let the message be brought to all**
Ring it out loud and clear,
Her integrity we must redeem.
All ye o patriotic we beseech
To return her back to her glorious days

An insightful clarion call for selfless service to motherland. A well articulated piece of poetry, nicely penned in poetic diction with conviction. Real service is a function of sincerity and integrity. A lovely poem indeed. Thanks for sharing Francis. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON.
