To My Grand-Daughter Poem by John Mackinnon

To My Grand-Daughter

To Jemma - Shanghai 18/3/16

'I am done with this day,
And it with me.
I have given all that I had,
And have no more.
Let me sleep, snore,
And yield up care.

I am weary
At tomorrow's thought
Though it may find me worthy
To fill my lungs with laughter
And shout it to the air,
Let sleep embrace
Me gently now
To end this day
I shared.

Your granddaughter should be proud that you have dedicated this poem to her. May you get all the sleep you need.
