To Robert Poem by Christal Carpenter

To Robert

My heart beats so fast
My lips melt into yours
My hand is held in your hand
My hope is not gone
Of you loving me
(So why am I so scared?)

My heart races in fear
My lips are kissing the forbidden
My hand should not be in yours
My fear is absurd
If we are meant to be
(So why won’t I let go?)

My heart is so disappointed
My lips long for yours
My hand tries to grasp your love again
My tears are gone
But I keep on crying
(So why won’t I go back to you?)

My heart knew what had to be done
My lips knew it was never meant to be
But my hand fit in yours so perfectly
My love is true
And I keep on trying
(So I need you to know)

My heart wishes for you to be mine
My lips wish to kiss you one more time
My hand wishes that you would never have let it go
My life is not over
And as I try to understand
(So then you tell me you love me again)
