To Self Doubt Poem by Jackie Chou

To Self Doubt

It's time for me to free myself from your cruel grasp
I'm ready to cut you off
Like a toxic friend I've outgrown
I remember when we were inseparable
Dancing the tango day and night
Falling in love with each other
I've learned that you're a deep well
An appetite I will always be too small to satisfy
I want you to know I'm strong enough to overpower you
I will always remember your sharp words
Poking my self-esteem and deflating it like a balloon
It's time to say goodbye, slowly but surely
To your relentless abuse
The lies you tell that I'm not good enough
To bathe myself in self love
The opposite of you
The cobalt sky after the dark clouds clear
