Too Early A Betrayal Poem by Rose Kanana

Too Early A Betrayal

Rating: 4.3

You had the duty of care to accord her
To love, protect like you would do to your own blood
The innocence of a nine year old
Who hardly knew how cruel the world was-was under siege
This time by the own blood bond that she looked up to for protection
The blood she so innocently trusted for love, care and protection

Why did you betray this little girls' trust?
Why did you take away her innocence?
Did preying on her make you feel a man enough?
Did you enjoy thrusting yourself on a helpless human being?
Did it satisfy your mental state?
Are you a better man when you flash back on it?

You changed her world view of trust to mistrust
Trust that she banked on from her seniour care giver
Trust that only blood could accord
You forgot that she was your blood
Your brothers blood -blood so close to you
Blood that only you could protect- but you chose otherwise

You chose to conspire with your emotions against her innocence
You did it not once but twice
She remained quiet about it
She trusted the world no more to open up to it
The fear of the unknown made her keep the 'secret'
Probably because she did not know the children rights

Probably because she wanted to maintain
The 'sanctity' of your family name
To hold the 'family glue' at her expense of justice
A family name that meant much more to you than the violation
For had the truth come out
You would probably have faced a life jail term

Why did you do this to her son of her grandmother?
Was your ego happy taking away the innocence of a nine year old?
How much more can one be cruel to his own blood?
When you look at your daughter-does it haunt you?
Was a nine year old dressed seductively for you?
Was she in the wrong place at the right time?

She wishes you nothing but blessings
They say Karma is a bitch BUT she does not wish you karma
She does not wish your blood daughters karma
Because she knows no child should experience sexual violation
Blood should not be cruel to fellow blood
Just as it should not be cruel to any child

You betrayed your duty of care- you are forgiven
She will probably go to the grave with the 'secret'
Of this big betrayal and hurt
Will you allow her to forgive you?
will you look straight into her eyes and say sorry?
That is all she needs for her closure and your closure

The prayer of a helpless nine year old-forgiveness heals

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The sexual violation of children by adults who are meant to protect are high, cases go unreported and this destroys childrens mental maps of who to turn to for protection since the perpetrator is always close, blood or someone living within the homestead. Say NO to violation of vulnerable children.
