Too Many Sunny Days Poem by David Thomas

Too Many Sunny Days

I miss the rain the
fall of it all
that never stops never fades
it's always there one day
to the next
and now i'm running
running through sun
the wind on my back
the clouds parted slightly,
my pace is my peace
and i'm making my own
But you're not here...

I miss my best friend
the moon to my sun
the stars to my night sky
i miss the way we were
open about the world
likes dislikes and colorings apart
we were great,
our bond knew no bounds
and we killed it

left it dying in the sunlight
as it sped into the darkness
fading from sight with a gust of ignorance
and a pinch of denial
we nailed that casket shut
and i regret it,
can't we just go back
to when we would play
by the swings
dancing unafraid
to the days of warning
our peers brought up to us?
Angel, I miss you
surround me with your wings once more
or leave me for barren
with nothing less but nothing more.
