Too Old To Understand
I would kiss you now—
so that I might taste
the essence of your being
and you would know
that I still care.
I would hold your hands
making you my friend and lover
for however many eternities
we both might have together
you and me.
I would tell you
all these things now
before it too late
and we get to be too old
to understand or remember
our reasons for being here
and all the love I have for you.
