Too Trusting Poem by Francis Duggan

Too Trusting

They convince us we are the good people that we are the honest and just
And they tell us the people we should like and the people we ought not to trust
We are happy to believe what they tell us naivety is an amazing thing
In the Land of the blind as they tell us the one eyed man he is the King.

Of our Government we are too trusting from them we want to believe what we hear
They cling to power with their secret weapon by verbally spreading of fear
Of those that we look on as different kind words you will not hear them say
For the sake of power they create for us enemies it never ought to be this way.

By talking up their war on terror more terrorism they do create
The good things about other cultures they don't urge us to celebrate
Their ambiguous words have undertones of negativity in power they only wish to stay
The culture divide seems to suit them so they create us against they.

Of our Governments we are too trusting though their purpose in life is well known
To cling to power by means of division their seeds of hatred they have sown
Perhaps in the chambers of Parliament a wise person one would not find
And to have a one eyed person for ruler I must live in the Land of the blind.
