Trefin Mill / Felin Trefin Poem by Shaun Cronick

Trefin Mill / Felin Trefin

Rating: 5.0

The Mill no longer grinds,
At Trefin beside the sea.
The last pony has gone home,
Bearing its load from the door.
And the wheel that once would rumble,
And grumble in the cwm,
Since the old miller passed on,
Has made its final turn.

The kindly stream still flows,
By the bare brow of the house,
But it mills the barley no more,
And the big old wheel is still.
Where Llanrhiain's white wheat,
Lay in heaps at summer's end.
Now there's just some seaweed,
And a scatter of green reeds.

The quiet stone that guards the place
In the pelting rain and wind
Is a wordless memorial stone
To former pleasant days.
No one mills here now,
And only time and the weather
Erode and wear down,
Milling the mill at Trefin.

Nid yw'r Felin heno'n malu
Yn Nhrefin ym min y môr,
Trodd y merlyn olaf adref
Dan ei bwn o drothwy'r ddôr,
Ac mae'r rhod fu gynt yn chwyrnu
Ac yn rhygnu drwy y fro,
Er pan farw'r hen felinydd
Wedi rhoi ei holaf dro.

Rhed y ffrwd garedig eto
Gyda thalcen noeth y ty,
Ond ddaw ned i'r fal ai farlys,
A'r hen olwyn fawr ni thry,
Lle doi gwenith gwyn Llanrhiain
Derfyn haf yn llwythi cras,
Ni cheir mwy on tres o wymon
Gydag ambell frwynen las.

Segur faen sy'n gwylio'r fangre
Yn y curlaw mawr a'r gwynt,
Di-lythyren garreg goffa
O'r amseroedd difyr gynt,
Ond' does yma neb yn malu,
Namyn amser swrth a'r hin
Wrthi'n chwalu ac yn malu,
Malu'r felin yn Nhrefin.

Wonderful poem about nostalgia that really speaks to me Shaun...so impressive that you have expressed it in both Welsh and English. Your words create a very vivid picture in my mind. It's certainly a very fine homage to Felin Trefin inspired five from me!
