Trick Or Treat Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Trick Or Treat

Pumpkins have been carved with caution
Seeds are ready for roasting after washing
Orange hollow shells have frightening faces
With widely spaced teeth in need of braces

Parents of small children promote the tradition
They encourage a practice that nixes nutrition
Children in costumes look forward to sweets
Today is a day for indulging in sugary treats

It is the darkest and scariest night of the year
A time when ghosts and skeletons appear
At front doors where porch lights are inviting
Shouts of 'trick or treat' make it fun and exciting

Delightful ballerinas and witches beg charmingly
Werewolves and ninjas say, 'thanks' disarmingly
The parade of disguises dwindles as rewards deplete
No longer heard are the sounds of approaching feet

Halloween has passed by with entertaining deception
Applauded with sweet treats and a warm reception
Porch lights extinguish as the ink of night falls silent
An expanding smile flickers dimly with a waxy scent
