True Beauty Poem by Katrina Lusk

True Beauty

I suffer from not knowing what true beauty means. Webster tells you that it is the quality of physical attraction. I take a look in the mirror and ask myself, what exactly do others see. There are scars that lie upon my wrist, some faded and some I can never erase. It's a fact once you make the first cut, you can never take it back. I see chipped and imperfect teeth, hair that is never pushed out of my face. I'm not a size zero, and I know that I could be. In all honesty, I'm just not that pretty. Then I take another look at Mr. Webster's definition. This is what I read...
True beauty is having qualities that give pleasure to the mind and senses. Is that what he loves about me? Is it really not because of my looks, but instead it's my personality.? Now I believe so.The way I tilt my head back when I laugh, or how I smile when I am happy. Am I beautiful for the way I believe that anything is just as possible as it seems? Does he look at true beauty; as the twinkle in my eyes, or the way I jump around like a child when I am excited? Is it the way he can tell when I am mad, just by seeing me storm through the door. Is beauty the feeling that I am free from all of the pain and misery? True Beauty is smiling at the reflection in the mirror. Not ashamed of who you used to be, only focused on your dreams. It is realizing and accepting what everyone else perceives.
True Beauty is what you make it out to be.
