Turning Back Through The Pages Of Time Poem by Mohammad Younus

Turning Back Through The Pages Of Time

Turning back through the pages of time,
I'm drawn towards you,
when you took from me
a covenant of loyalty,
when I was not in a frame
of flesh and bones.

How is it you always take me there,
where my virgin heart had no sense of being,
a stranger, a being unconnected.
You showered over me
the divine stones, radiant with your light.

This can't be unnatural,
for I can't hide myself from your light,
that is my essence.
I have no light of my own,
I have no music of my own.

I am in you, and you in me.
What strange feeling is this!
Never been in this state before!
No idea how your truth
shines upon me,
but I find myself craving more.

I hear from you, when in your presence,
about your showers of light—
knowledge and wisdom,
peace and love.
'Have you been filled? '
And I reply,
'Are there some more? '
I can't help craving for more and more
of your gifts profound.

When I see you smile
at my innocence, childlike,
the feeling that comes over me,
I'll be happy and an eternal lover,
if your smiles last all the while.

You are the river,
and I, a drop, longing
to merge back into the flow,
to be carried by your currents,
to the boundless ocean of your being.

And what am I to do,
now that you've revealed
your light to my heart.
Many years from the Day of Alast,
I still remember this start,
and will forget it never.
