Twenty Meters Down Below, Stoned Poem by Sophie Allyah

Twenty Meters Down Below, Stoned

Just finished sounding
Now my new job is to deliver something
While walking towards my destination
Because of the strong wind
I'm clutching the burlap for their mission
Holding tight I can feel the rough of its rind
In this vessel we have seven cargo holds
We are preparing it for loading coals
Now I'm in cargo hold number two
The only access is the manhole for the crew
Hatch cover's closed, but ventilation's open
So it was safe to go inside then
Now entering I went down in sparked
Each of my steps echoed and was very dark
To see is to use a cargo light
But because it was only for a minute
They used only a flashlight
I used mine in my cellphone's tool kit
Handing it over the burlap
He took it just to throw down, to drop
Sitting on spiral ladder now and watching
The two crew went down for the job
While I'm doing absolutely nothing
They'd finished quick without doing a gab
At twenty meters below, they're now climbing
While they're doing so, I'm stilly and waiting
While waiting I listened to Morbid Angel
The song is 'He who sleeps' in my phone
It blew my mind because it echoed like hell
What more if I'm down there, stoned?
