Twilight Poem by Justin Baker

Twilight

Death by new daylight
life by old night
through this succession
we all recite

”One for none
and none for all”
we feign from the limelight
yet cherish “no ones” blank call.

We cry for the soldiers
and ignore the young widows
we send them more sons
as they weep in their pillows
our great nations fight
for not justice or liberty
but for power-starved warlords
and black-tie masked bigotry

So when do we stop
do we fight to the death?
With chain links on children,
and blood on our breath.
