Unopened Gift Poem by Jiya Mili

Unopened Gift

I received it at night
But told myself to keep it aside
Like a gift still wrapped up
Unless opened, I wouldn't know what's inside.

It was sent by someone
Whom I had come to trust
A good friend but who liked to be naughty
Sometimes, his words could get quite flirty.

I wanted to get a good night's sleep
So decided to open it in the morning
Keeping the phone by the bedside
In spite of anticipation, simply closed my eyes.

I woke up pretty early
Remembered there was something waiting for me
Opened the whats app n tapped on the video
It turned out, the gift was actually a recorded audio.

This time there were no words but a beautiful melody
Played on the flute, rather mystically
Soothing, yet soul-stirring, it completely floored me
This time, my friend had, bowled me a googly.
