Unprepared Poem by Sarah Swillen

Unprepared

Where's your armor, lonely soldier?
Your heart is bared to me.
Such an unexpected sweetness,
I'm at a loss for feeling.
An emptiness I hadn't felt
Is beating in my gut.
Like hearts and drums around a fire,
like the urge to cling or run.
