Unprepared Oblivion Poem by Dakota Ellerton

Unprepared Oblivion

I held to the possibility that you had become wiser,
without suffering we walk into the oblivion unarmed.
I sacrafice endlessly for you and only you,
as I cling to the belief of your salvation.
In this despair,
I toil over my conflictions.
If all was once beautiful,
can it not sustain such purity again?
My mind wraps around the concept of forgiveness,
and embraces the lonliness you flame.
I've chosen my path,
and in the belly of the beast -
you must follow yours.
In my womb grows the monster of sincerity.
I craddle my tears well into the night,
as darkness spreads and conquers all that was once good about you.
