Unrequited Love Poem by Ololade Okunade

Unrequited Love

Logic?
Magic?
Reality?
Dreams?

In a battle, my heart; the raging seas
In the middle I was,
Before I realized I began
Though I bridled my tongue,
From my eyes, the secret withdrawn.

To the graciousness of a Nightingale
To the enchantment of an angel
The engravings on my heart I made bare
Always met with the sound of never
And a sore that seizes not to burn
Gradually my most wanted forever
Rides away on time's unicorn.

All the luxuries of a thousand lords
To suffice will never be enough
For from the very first moment I beheld you
My heart was irrevocably gone
Now left with desires and fantasies liberally indulged
Ushering in my very own manner of discomfort
Every night, for solace, I close my eyes
Journey to where cupid makes us one.

Now half in anguish, forever half in hope
Onto what's left of my boat I cling
Be it oblivion, be it home
For you, the flickers left of this flame shall never cease.
