Up The Stairway Poem by Linda Barnes

Up The Stairway

An emotion
That has stirred
It is unwanted
Still obscured

From the start
It crept closer
While I kept
Myself elusive

Powerful and strong
It has become
I try to deflect
This mere assault

Should I stay
Or should I go
I hold my breath
So you can't know

My chest tightens
Then it's fine
I get dizzy
And wonder why

You get closer
I cannot move
Standing my ground
So you won't know

This emotion
That I'm feeling
Not transparent
To just anyone

I will meet you
Just halfway
Down a corridor
Up the stairway
