Usk. Poem by Michael Walker

Usk.

Ne casse pas la branche, ni
Espere a trouver
Le cerf blanc derriere le puits blanc.
Jette un coup d'oeil a l'ecart, non pas a la lance, n'ecris pas
De vieilles charmes. Qu'elles dormissent.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
T.S. Eliot left America and settled permanently in England, identifying closely with his English ancestors, and special places in the UK. Usk is a town in Wales, north of Newport and close to the border with England. It is a holy place, 'the hermit's chapel', where pilgrims pray.
